(c) ENER

  • The Economics of Religion uses economic theory and methods to analyze and explain religious behavior and its outcomes.
  • It can roughly be divided into three major lines of inquiry (Iannaccone, 1998, p. 1466):

    1. Analysis of religious behavior from an economic perspective, i.e. applying microeconomic theory and techniques to explain patterns of religious behavior among individuals, groups and cultures;

    2. Analysis of the economic consequences of religions or religious behavior, and

    3. A strand wich might be called 'Religious economics', i.e. the analysis and critique of economic theory and policies from a theological point of view.
  • For more details, see the extensive survey by Iannaccone (1998), downloadable here.
